About UnEqual Productions
UnEqual Productions is an award-winning company which was established in January 2021 to produce entertaining, contemporary, cutting-edge plays which resonate with world-wide audiences spanning social, ethnic and economic spectrums.
Irony and a light touch are intrinsic to UnEqual Productions’ philosophy of producing plays which promote thoughtful, lively discussion and debate without dictating how theatre goers ‘must’ or ‘should’ think and feel.
Instead Unequal Productions’ plays use humour, wit, and satire to highlight unspoken, often unseen, issues, which nonetheless affect us all. These productions offer unique insights into superficial and engrained attitudes which drive universally felt experiences in society today. Overall the company delivers an enjoyable, fulfilling and thought-provoking theatre experience.
Unequal Productions works with a range of talented theatre makers to deliver the highest quality productions. These include artistic directors, actors, lighting specialists and set designers. The company hugely appreciates the input and support it receives from individuals with long term theatre experience as well as encouraging new talent to help create wonderful and stimulating plays.
Despite its inauspicious beginning in 2021 when the covid 19 pandemic was at its height rendering theatres closed and audiences confined to their homes, Unequal Productions had a fantastic first year. Auditioning and Rehearsing with actors on Zoom, not infrequently in their bedrooms, the company held rehearsed readings to live Zoom audiences numbering more than 70 of two new plays: London Zoo and The Story of Friends.
Both were extremely well received meaning London Zoo had its inaugural five-night run at the Bread & Roses theatre, Clapham London in September 2021. The production was a fantastic success, garnering five-star reviews
and going on to win “Best Production” and “Best Ensemble Acting” Awards.
London Zoo’s second two-week production the following year at the same theatre was equally successful.
Audiences, critics and theatre makers alike said that they’d love to see London Zoo on a bigger stage with capacity for more attendees. The next run of London Zoo is planned for 2024 in a venue which meets these requirements.
Following its successful rehearsed reading in 2021, “The Story of Friends” is under development for the stage in late 2024.
Unequal Productions will always have its eye on the audience and the need to keep theatre alive through the best and worst of times. As a company we will continue to strive to present the highest quality, beautifully acted, cleverly written and thoughtfully amusing productions.
